It has nothing to do with writing but bear with me. Hopefully many of you are familiar with the ABC show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. If not, what happens is they choose a deserving family whose house is falling down around them, send them on vacation for a week and build them basically a mansion. This week, the family was from Long Island and are huge Yankee Fans. On Sunday they were informed of their good fortune, led onto the field and given the best seats in the house. They are currently on vacation now and construction is well underway on the house.
Why am I telling you this you ask? Well, because tomorrow a bus full of Yankee Stadium employees will be headed over to Long Island to help finish this house … and I will be on it!!!!
I’ve wanted to do this for so long. My mother and I watch the show faithfully every Sunday and cry each time. Some of the stories truly are gut wrenching and the squalor in which some people live – right here in America - is appalling. I know that I am very fortunate with everything I have and my amazing family, friends and job. To be able to give back will be a wonderful experience. Knowing that I will be helping make some people’s lives a little easier will be extraordinarily rewarding.
And I’ll probably have some great story material!
And to other business. Bethany has so generously awarded me with the Versatile Blogger Award! Why thank you very much Bethany! You should be sure to check her out at her blog. As she said, she and I frequent the same blog circle and have a great time reading what the other has to say
So now for seven things about me:
- I’m a ginger, in case you can’t tell from the photo and the fact that all my female protagonists are gingers as well.
- I am the oldest of four children. Sometimes I consider it such an accomplishment that it could be worthy of going on my resume. And if you lived in my house you would understand these sentiments. Great family yes. Are they insane? Let’s just say they’re Irish and Italian and leave it at that.
- I’m a singer. I like to think a good one sometimes too
- I hate potatoes.
- While I am a thoroughly modern girl, I do have quite the soft-spot for anything vintage. I do believe I was born 90 years too late.
- My senior prom dress still fits like a glove.
- Most importantly, I’m a writer (but you knew that).
Now to tag 15 other deserving bloggers:
- Once again, OllinMorales. His most recent post should be read with a box of tissues at hand.
- Ralph
- Gabby
- Corra McFeydon
- Kristy
- June H.
- Unabridged Girl
- Kit
- Lua
- Brown Paper Bag Girl
- Slightly Ignorant
- 83 October
- A Blank White Page
- Writing on Thin Ice
- Hema P.
All are fantastic bloggers with versatile writing skills and great things to say! If you’ve already received this award, oh well. You deserve it again
Remember, blogfest on Friday!! For the guidelines click here!
Creative Writing Goals
Obviously have the blogfest short story completed by Friday. It’s almost done! Try and pound it out tonight.
Rescue Me: Write the scene where Laura goes bananas about college by the end of next week.
WIP: Finish editing by Monday, or perhaps tomorrow after house-building.
Lifeguard: Plan this out better and write some of it, if I feel so inclined.
Hunter: I’m REALLY pumped about this one! It’s been in the back of my mind for a while but has only recently been coming forward in bits and pieces. Goal – get some of it plotted and a rough outline for at lease one of the character’s storylines.

Oh that sounds so exciting! Yeah the show makes me tear up every time too. It’s wonderful that you can get to participate in something like this!
June 27th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Thanks! It was such a once in a lifetime opportunity that I couldn’t let it go, deadlines be damned!
June 23rd, 2010 at 4:00 pm
I do not believe in your number four. I am morally opposed to disliking potatoes!
June 27th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Hahaha! It makes it worse that I’m Irish. Maybe I’m predisposed to dislike them because my ancestors were angry at the crop for abandoning them …
June 23rd, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Thanks for the award <3<3<3<3
Oh!!!! Will you be on TV then?! I usually don't watch this show. Only once in a blue moon. But if you'll be on it I'll hunt it down on YouTube if I must.
June 27th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
Any time! I meant to contact you directly about it and the other one but things came up … sigh.
I think I may have gotten in the background once or twice, it all depends on the final cuts of course. I think it should be the season premier or the second episode.

Goodness, I have never seen Extreme Makeover. I feel like I’ve arrived at a party with an important item of clothing missing (i.e. trousers–v. embarrassing). But also…WHO DOESN’T LIKE POTATOES? I am dumbfounded. Does this hatred extend to fries? What do you have with your burgers? And what about crisps (potato chips)? And mash? And what about potato-based pasta like gnocchi?
I have to stop thinking about your potato hatred before I have a MASSIVE HEAD EXPLOSION!!!
June 27th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Yes coming to a party sans pants would be quite the dilemma.
Don’t worry, I do eat French fries! and gnocchi. It’s just mashed and baked potatoes. I don’t know why, I’ve just never been a fan. I’m sorry to be causing you such distress!

HUGE NEWS!! is an understatement! That’s so incredible! Congrats! I also want to know if you’ll be on TV and when it will be aired, because I want to watch! <3 I hope you have a blast!
And thank you for the award! <3 I have something to blog today now. =P <3<3
June 27th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Yay! More blog posts
And I think I may be on TV depending on the final cuts of the editors. It’s either the season premier or the second episode in the middle/end of September/into October.

June 25th, 2010 at 10:00 am
Thank you so much for the award!!! I’m going to try to get my post for the blogfest ready today – isn’t it lucky that I live a few time zones ahead of you all?
I’ve got more time to do it!
June 25th, 2010 at 10:02 am
Ooops, I hit the “post comment” button too soon!
It sounds like an incredible thing for you to be able to do – going to the home and helping fix it up. I never heard of this show, but I love that it’s done for families who need it, not families who need a “fashion makeover” or something. So good luck, have fun, and I hope you do indeed get fodder for your writing!
June 27th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
Thanks! And I myself hit the reply button too soon because I had a clever comment concerning the time zones …
But yes, the show is awesome, it’s not superficial at all, it’s actually helping people who need it. I was so honored to be a part of it
June 27th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
You are welcome very much for the award!
And yes, I can’t wait to read your blogfest story! Lua’s was quite good and I’m liking mine so far. I’m so excited!

Thanks and thanks!
My friend does Habitat for Humanity too and I’ve always wanted to participate, but it never worked out. Now I’ve got something like it under my belt and I can’t wait to get back at it
